Invisalign® Braces
for Hitchin, Stotfold, Shefford & the Surrounding Areas

You may have heard about ‘invisible braces’ and wondered if they'll work for you. If you have teeth that are crowded, too far apart or have shifted since wearing conventional braces, Invisalign® braces may give you a new reason to smile!

Because it is nearly invisible almost no one can tell you are wearing Invisalign®, so you can smile more during as well as after your treatment. You can remove Invisalign® so you can eat and drink what you like, and studies have shown that it can be better for your dental hygiene during treatment. With no metal or sharp edges, Invisalign® braces are comfortable to wear and does not cause allergies.

The convenience and ease of use have made it the choice of over half a million people, giving hundreds of thousands of people amazing new smiles.
How do Invisalign® braces work?
Using the latest advances in 3-D computer technology, Invisalign® uses your dentist’s instructions to create a series of custom made removable mouth trays (aligners). These aligners apply a controlled amount of force to your teeth, causing them to move. Each aligner is slightly different, moving your teeth gradually into the desired position.
How long does Invisalign® take to straighten teeth?
Invisalign® only works while you wear the aligners. We recommend they are worn full time day and night (min 20–22 hours).

Each aligner is worn for 1-2 weeks, (before moving onto the next in the series), moving your teeth millimetre by millimetre, week by week, until you reach your desired result.

Treatment length will vary depending on your case, but the average Invisalign® treatment is 6-9 months. During treatment you should visit us periodically, until it is determined that your treatment is complete. Once active treatment is complete, there may be some fine tuning to create that perfect smile.

General Invisalign Advice when you can't see your Dentist
  •  Increase aligner wear time from 1 week to 2-3 weeks. On the 3rd week the aligners will be acting more like retainers so wear time can be reduced to around 15-18 hours rather than 22.
  • Attachment placement and IPR will need to be delayed, but you can still wear aligners and go slowly through treatment. At some point loss of tracking may occur which can be rectified further down the line.
  • If an attachment debonds- do not worry! This can be rebonded at a later stage and you can still carry on.
  • Check that you have enough space between teeth with floss to assess tracking and follow up via virtual appointments (e.g. Facetime, Whatsapp Video Call)
  • If you are unsure of something or concerned, please contact Dr Sesh Rao

Aligner cleaning advice for patients

  • Continue to use cleaning crystals if you still have them.
  • Clean aligners prior to each insertion. Use a soft bristle toothbrush with water and a small amount of toothpaste. It may be easiest to clean the outside of your aligners by brushing them while they are still on your teeth, then remove your aligners to clean the inside surfaces.
  • Retainer cleaning products can also be found at supermarkets/online which can help with keeping aligners clean.
