IV sedation can be used alongside many treatments, including tooth extractions, wisdom tooth removal, root canal treatment, dental crowns, restorative dentistry, dental implants and other procedures, depending on your personalised treatment plan. Sedation is available from £350 per hour (third-party provider), with all fees discussed during your consultation before treatment begins.

What is IV conscious sedation and how does it work?

IV conscious sedation, also known as twilight sedation, helps you feel deeply relaxed during dental treatment. The sedation is delivered through a small cannula placed in the hand or arm by a qualified third-party sedation provider.

You remain conscious and able to respond throughout treatment, but most patients remember very little afterwards. Local anaesthetic is still used to ensure treatment is comfortable, and you will be monitored throughout your appointment and recovery.

Who dental sedation suitable for?

IV sedation may be suitable if dental anxiety, dental phobia or a strong gag reflex makes treatment difficult. It can also help if you need multiple procedures completed in fewer visits or have avoided the dentist due to previous experiences.

Before arranging sedation, we will carry out a full assessment to confirm whether conscious sedation is suitable for you and discuss any relevant medical history.

How much does sedation dentistry cost?

IV sedation is charged from £350 per hour by our registered third-party sedation provider, in addition to the cost of your dental treatment. Before your appointment, we will provide a clear written estimate covering both sedation and treatment costs, with no hidden fees.

Is IV sedation the same as a general anaesthetic?

No. IV sedation keeps you conscious but deeply relaxed throughout treatment. You remain able to breathe independently and respond to the dental team.

Will I be asleep during treatment?

You will not be fully asleep, but most patients feel very relaxed and remember little or nothing about the appointment afterwards.

How do I prepare for a sedation appointment?

You will need a responsible adult to take you home afterwards and must avoid driving for 24 hours. Full instructions will be provided before your appointment.

Can I have IV sedation if I take medication?

Possibly. We will review your medical history, medications and overall health before confirming whether sedation is suitable for you.

Can I have multiple treatments in one visit?

Yes, sedation can allow several treatments to be completed in a single comfortable appointment.
